In this blog post, I wanted to talk about the meeting about my second year of my MFA. I’ve started to do some brainstorming on what that will be. But first I wanted to talk more about what I’ve done for Net-Rider.
Created a Discord server (even though it’s early) and invited the team that are interested in working on my project. I’ve done this as one of my friends who is doing art wants to do more concept designs over the summer, so we will be both be working on it as a side project.
Continued working on the Production part of the design doc, I plan on looking at other options than Trello. I think Trello helped a lot when working on Mecha-Geddon but I’m looking to look at more that are industry standard to get more experience with them.
Started filling out the form for my Thesis/Studio Form.
Been adding more to the Art-Bible that was linked in last weeks post.
Current Ideas I’m working with:
My thesis has to be related to Net-Rider and so I started to brainstorm some ideas this week.
Media Preservation
Where does old tech go? (Environmental Impacts, How could it be Improved)
Capitalism in the World of Digital Media
Characters like Ryder, being controlled in an oligarchy.
Secretly run entirely by a group of a couple guys/CEO’s
Watching TV is Propaganda (the song Watching TV by Magdalena Bay.
How do bands do unconventional world building?
Twenty One Pilots (Trench) and Magdalena Bay (Imaginal Disk)
Lyrics, Social Media, Music Videos, ARG’s
How do developers do this type of world building in video games?
Remedy Games, Inscription, etc.
So I’ve got a lot of good topics here, and I believe that I will be going with the last two ideas the most. Those two bands I mentioned are heavy inspiration for the overall theme of Net-Rider, and I think they both excel at doing exactly that. I plan on going in-depth by my last blog post as I also share updates on my final presentation for seminar. I’m doing a lot of this brainstorming stuff early as I’m looking forward to getting to work on this project in the fall and I want to be able to prepare for it as much as possible.
In Addition, I wanted to share some images that were just added to the art bible. These are images that are in tune with the main overall theme of the game. Some of them are from Pintrest, but some are from Imaginal Disk by Magdalena Bay and the one on the far right is from the game Marathon.
