PAX East Post!
I wanted to take some time to use this blog post as a small detour and talk about my time at PAX East this past week.
This was the first time I was an Exhibitor at PAX East through Clark University. We were showcasing our studio game Mecha-Geddon. I have showcased previous games before, but in a MUCH smaller scale. Not only did it feel like a full circle moment for me, but it was an incredible experience. Another thing that I mentioned was that it was a great moment for the project, as we had a bunch of setbacks in the first semester. The current build that was showcased at PAX shows a lot of growth and a much more finalized build completed. We had stricter deadlines the past two weeks for our entire team. We did this because of the build deadline for the program on March 23rd at 11:59pm. Collin (Project Lead) and I made two spreadsheets, these spreadsheets were for Programming and Art/UI. We made specific lists for stuff that we wanted implemented in the PAX Build.
One of the main things I emphasized to the team was using the widget in google sheets where you can link image files into the actual sheet. This made it so much easier for the Programmers to go through the spreadsheet and find the exact asset file that needs to be implemented rather than them having to look through multiple google drive folders to find the exact asset file.
We also did an early check-in on Saturday (rather than the usual Monday check-in) to see how the team was doing before the PAX deadline.
When showcasing the game at PAX, I had a great time running through the explanation of the game, giving a through explanation of the game without overwhelming them. I felt like every time I explained it I either got better at it, or added something that fit perfectly into my spiel.
I didn’t have as much time to work on Seminar this week, but I’m going into my presentation on Wednesday with a good plan of how to tackle the rest of the semester with Net Rider.
