Production, Art Bible, and Organization

Since my last Blog Post:

  • Presented my 4th Milestone Presentation

  • Created and Started working on the Art-Bible in Miro. (My Friend who is an artist was helping me organize it, and is going to start working on concepts soon)

  • Sent the (almost finished) GDD to a couple people to pitch them my studio idea.

  • Character Creations and Decisions

The Art-Bible was a long time coming, but It took me a long time as I don’t know how to use Miro that well, and that I wasn’t sure how to organize it. Thankfully it turned out perfectly.

  • The Art Bible is organized by panels. There are panels for general vibe of Net-Rider (in the middle) then on the right are all the environments, and on the left are the rest of the characters.

  • It’s a little hard to show with the image sizing so the link is above which should allow you to view it. This allowed me to feel much more organized about the art direction for the game, and since it was created I’ve been slowly adding more inspiration images to it.

Character Changes

  • There have been two big character changes since last week. The first one is the change of “Jack” the main character.

  • Jack is now “Via” (She/They) and is Non-Binary. (The overall character backstory stays the same)

    • This decision was made for a couple of reasons, when looking back at my characters, the one who was the most underdeveloped was Jack. I was focusing on the Post-Upload version much more.

    • Initially, I had the idea to make the main character Non-Binary. This was an Idea I had early last semester, but due to bouncing to different parts of the project and other work, it got sidelined until now. I am incredibly happen with this decision, I also believe that representation is incredibly important, and I feel like Net-Rider wouldn’t be complete with out it. It is a game about bringing your self into the digital world, being able to choose how you look and feel in any way you want.

    • Current inspiration for this character is mainly coming from the character Jubilee from X-Men.

  • David Collins!

David Collins is the character who resides in The Fringe.

  • My main inspiration for this character is Looker from Pokémon, his older look with his investigator aesthetic and huge trench coat.

Misc Updates and Next Steps!

My friend who will be one of the artists on Net Rider showed me a unity package for “Interactive Foliage Shaders” this will be an incredible tool to make the environments feel distinct and unique, as those are probably my favorite things I’ve designed for this project.

Final Milestone Plans!

  • Now that I’ve sent out the GDD to some of my potential team members, I’m going to see if they have any clarfiying questions, sharing my blog posts and previous milestone presentations if they want.

  • My Final Milestone Presentation will detail all of these changes above, but the main focus for it is PRODUCTION.

    • How I will run my Studio, What is feasible in two semesters, the end goal, the team, etc.

  • I’m excited to start working on it and will share more in my next (final?) blog post.
