For this Blog Post, I wanted to reflect on my third Milestone Presentation which was this past week.

  • My presentation was not as bulky as previous ones, as I was incredibly busy the past weekend. However, the presentation had a main focus of learning Aesprite.

  • I am really proud with the progress I made on the drafting the first Boss into Aesprite, It’s still a work in progress. This just allowed me to really visualize the character I want to create

    • The main feedback I got from people who had used Aesprite before was:

      • Use a Smaller Canvas size, as it will be better for visualizing your character in actual sprite sizes.

      • Create a Pallet of 10-20 colors that are all different for your game so you have a baseline for the aesthetic. These could be different for environments and different characters, but it should overall be these colors.

    • These two points I will be taking into consideration as I continue to work on my project. My plan isn’t to have every character designed in Aesprite. But a baseline of their personality, color pallet, and overall behavior. My project will have a pixelated art style though.

What I’ve done this past week.

  • A lot of the bigger stuff that I did was in my last blog post. I was mainly preparing for my milestone presentation. But for the first couple days of the week my main focus was organization. I had been doing a lot of work, but I wasn’t adding all of it in the doc. I re-organized my design doc, adding a font for the body text (Outfit) to make it feel more consistent with the main font I’ve been using (Orbiton).

  • Another part of my organization was working on my Trello. In addition to my main tasks. I’ve made a ‘Mega List” which has every thing that I want to (or have) gotten done on the doc. Some of these need revisiting, but having this mega checklist makes me feel more completed on what I have gotten finished.

  • Updated the Synopsis:

    • “Netcode” (working title) is a 2D Action Roguelike Platformer where you play as a sentient USB drive traversing cyberspace. You wake up in a junkyard, unsure where you are and who you are. Encounter an opposing force in the dictator of cyberspace, Ryder, who, for some reason, feels like a familiar face. You must chase this feeling after you travel through distinct worlds and defeat enemies... You must chase this feeling after you travel through distant worlds and defeat enemies as you engage in new software updates and USB Sticks to achieve the one that you want: answers.

Next Steps:

My plan for this next week is to finalize a lot of stuff. Some of this was mentioned in my most recent Milestone Presentation.

  • Create Key Icon Sheet and Environments using Google Diagrams (base environment description with pallets for each)

  • The Software Updates, have around 6 or 7 examples by next week’s blog post.

    • Keep remembering to add things into the Doc as you complete them.

  • Work on the villain, Ryder.
