For my last Blog Post of the Semester I will be talking about what I’ve done and reflect on my project as a whole. Additionally, this project is now called.. Net Rider.
Character Bios
Environment Descriptions
Diagrams
Reflection
The hardest part of working with these bios was the before upload (Jack). As this is the character that you are learning about as you progress through the game. You will be able to encounter “data cubes” throughout each environment that will remind you of the person you used to be before you uploaded. I’m happy with the worldbuilding I’ve done too, as its helped me shape the rest of the game as I continue to work on this project next semester.
Environment Descriptions and Diagrams
Derelict Servers
The Result of Neglect
The Derelict Servers is an eroding data server that is the junkyard of cyberspace. It’s inhabited by exiled and forgotten individuals of society. It is under high surveillance by Ryder, The Creator of Cyberspace. It’s filled with overgrown databases and loose electrical cables. Everywhere you go there are sparks jumping out from damaged equipment. The entire area is monitored by S.T.P (Server Terminate Protocol). A security unit of immense power to make sure no one gets in or gets out.
The Fringe
The World Between Worlds
The Fringe is a pocket dimension in cyberspace, the only place that is invisible from RyCORP. Its mysterious and cloudy atmosphere allows it to not arouse any suspicion from RyCORP. It’s small and feels light, for some reason you keep coming back to this place. The Fringe was created by ____. They are unfamiliar at first, but may be the key in finding the answers you want.
The Fringe is a area that you will encounter multiple times in a run. The character who created this “pocket dimension” is still being decided, but the main inspiration behind this area is The Bazar area in Risk of Rain 2. This would be an area which would have more storytelling aspects the more you end up going there. This will also be a place where you can heal up and upgrade your items.
The Exurbs
The Edge of Surveillance
The Exurbs is a tight-knit suburban town not too far away from RyCorp Industries. It’s home to the biggest radio stations in cyberspace, RY.XM. A Radio Station where Ryder broadcasts his “chats” with everyone in cyberspace. The town is lively and rusty. Home to uploads who want to get away from the city, only to still be plagued by Ryder's authoritative hold on this space.
I’m looking forward to diving into this environment as this one was an idea that randomly came to me. I had an idea for Ryder to do some sort of “Fireside Chats” broadcasted to everywhere in cyperspace. The core part of this enviorment is the broadcasting station HQ. Which is where Ryder broadcasts his “chats.”
RyCORP Industries
The City of Second Chances
RyCORP Industries is the leading tech company you know and love now fully based in cyberspace. Created by the revolutionary Ryder Collins, We have created the HUB for social living and interaction in cyberspace. Here you will be able to do anything you please, and look any way that you would like. We are here to give you a second chance in this uncharted new world. If you need assistance, you know where to find us! Just look up.
This enviorment was invisioned as the tallest tower in the area. I had the idea of making the description feel like a corprate infomercial. I’m taking a lot of inspiration from the Clock Tower from Dead Cells and Akasaka Tower from Cyberpunk 2077.
Diagram

I’ve been working on the diagrams for awhile now, but as the narrative was my main focus the past two weeks. The main thing I did was redo the derelict servers in the software Figma. Which I will be using for mapping out for the future.
Reflection
I believe that I’ve done a lot of good work, and although I’ve been super busy I am incredibly proud with where my project has come since the beginning. I have had a lot of fun conceptualizing this project from concept to half way developed. I still have a lot of work to do, and some that I wasn’t able to this semester. But that makes me more excited to continue this progress during my second semester after winter break. I do believe taking a slight break from the project will be helpful for me, as the past couple weeks I’ve had somewhat of a creative block against it.
