First off I wanted to reflect on my Milestone Presentation. I thought my presentation went really well. I felt like I got enough feedback and it seemed that everyone liked where my project was going. I also liked how my presentation turned out, I spent a couple hours on it making sure that I got my vision for this project across. My main question that I wanted answered was:
“As someone who isn’t as familiar with programming, how would you detail the information on a design doc?"
I got a pretty concrete answer. Which was that you want to make sure everything is extremely detailed in the design doc down to the code so that the eventual programmer would be able to fully understand how you want this function to work.
Main Goals for this Week:
Map out and determine first world (which is based off of the Dead Internet Theory) (Main Focus)
Determine Character and Overarching Narrative (Bigger focus on Sunday, 9/28, will have more to show for this on my next blog post)

Derelict Servers - THE MAIN WORLD
First world in Netcode
Incredibly grim, and rusty.
The environment reeks of ooze and oil. The areas look like old servers and data banks that haven’t been used in forever.
You start at spawn, transporting out of the server behind you. You start to morph into this creature with your arm still looking like a USB Stick.
This entire world feels like it was left to rust. The walls that surround you are slight beeping servers that are not in use, except the one you spawn in from for some reason… These data centers have the same logo. Everywhere.
Key Room Mechanic (Data Centers)
These key mechanics listed in the whiteboard drawing, will also be included in other worlds. There is a key on the whiteboard that help signify what each thing is.
One of the types of rooms that can be found in every world is the “Data Center”
Datacenters offer new weapons and other rewards to the player, but they have to complete a chalange first.
There are 6 yellow buttons across the DataCenter area, you have to press all of them (by hitting them with an attack)
AND kill all of the enemies in the area.
Once you’ve completed this in the middle the chest will unlock and allow you to claim a reward.
This reward will be a unique weapon with a different rarity type
S.T.P (Server Terminate Protocol) - First Mini-Boss
The first Mini-Boss of the game is the S.T.P (Server Terminate Protocol).
This boss fight will be more unique than the other bosses in the game.
This is a towering data center, with two blue glowing eyes. It’s goal is to eradicate you. Delete you from existence.
It has 12 squares on its body. You must hit all of the ones on the outside to defeat it. It has platforms for arms that will allow the player to jump up and across the boss to get to both sides.
The S.T.P will launch a variety of attacks. Slow but hard hitting.
Next Week and This Weekends Focus:
Software Upgrades (the UNIQUE mechanic)
Core Overarching Narrative, Brainstorming for the Main Character (this should be determined by next weeks blog post)
Throughout this weekend, updating the design document with this info here. Re-Organize Trello and look back on milestone tasks.
Overall Touch-Ups.
I also plan on reaching out to some artists I know to help me brainstorm for the idea of the main character, I have also wanted to use Aesprite. So I will be purchasing it and testing it for myself if I ever want to visualize on my own.
