For the past two weeks, I’ve been doing a lot of the conceptualization phase. In my Milestone 1 Goal, I wanted to have these filled out in my Design Document Draft:

(Formatting and making sure my Design Doc was made well was my main component of the past two weeks. It is linked above, let me know if there are any issues. You will find my responses to these goals there)

  • Working Title

  • One Paragraph Summary

  • Detailed Table of Contents and Title Page

  • Genres and Target Audience

  • Unique Selling Point

  • List and Reasoning of Inspiration and Research

The first thing that I worked on was making sure that I knew what had to be on my Design Doc Table of Contents. If I was going to make a fully fleshed out doc, It would need to look professional and organized.

The book Game Design Workshop by Tracey Fullerton was incredibly helpful in this process. It has a chapter about Design Docs and what you might need to include in them. This gave me the fundamental to add the base of my doc.

These two books have shown me a new way to brainstorm and research for my project which I will be using in the coming weeks for my project.

  • Outside Research (Go to a Local Library), Physical Prototypes for UI and gameplay mechanics, and using Whiteboards

Those are just some of the methods I will be using throughout my process working on this project.
